"June is Black Joe Lewis Music Month!"

6/1/2009

Each day in June Joe will be posting a track or album that was influential to him and a brief description letting fans know why it's relevant.  Come back each day, or follow Joe on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/blackjoelewis, to get the latest update!

1. Menahan Street Band - "Make the Street by Walking"
"It's stacked. Cool beats, sweet grooves, and the best drum sound around. Jay-Z sampled this."

2. Bruce Springsteen - Greetings From Asbury Park
"It just sounds like a bunch of street jams, and the boss is a great story teller. Listen to "Saint In The City."

3. Iggy & The Stooges - Gimme Some Skin

"Simply a cool album. Not much to say other than "it rocks."

4. 8Ball & MJG - "I'm Sittin On Top Of The World"

I tried to see these guys at SXSW, but they missed their plane. Guess they had some pimpin' to take care of.

5. The Rolling Stones   Exile On Main Street

The best Stones album. I really like that trippy soul song, "Just Wanna See His Face"

6. The Saints "Stranded"

Punk rock from 1970's Australia. They should have made it big, but got passed up by the mighty AC/DC.

7. The Damned - Neat Neat Neat

Perfect van jams. It gets you amped when trying to stay awake on those long drives.

8.Steely Dan  - Can't Buy A Thrill

This thrill actually only cost us $9.99. We picked it up at a Walmart thinking it would be funny and it turned out really good. Killer guitar tone on Reelin' In The Years.
